The teaching of writing
Stanley Fish's curmudgeon act is tiresome. I wish I could make a living teaching writing; it's pretty clear that the economics are against that for people like me -- just another disposable adjunct. Ergo, lecturing graduate student teaching assistants and no-benefits, underpaid, and overworked adjuncts how they should be teaching grammar and syntax is ridiculous. It's a wonder that anyone learns how to write with all of the incentives lined up against the hard work required to improve student writing.
