I heard it said that the mind is like a boat. If you put one new thing on, you've got to throw something off. What, then, to make of this photograph of my former wife in happier times, energetic, healthy, beaming? What to make of these scribbles on paper -- "The course was brilliant throughout"? And where shall I place the site of that running back (Marcus Lattimore) and his knee dangling -- a gruesome injury? In looking at photographs, I see that it is a big lie that things are now as they have been and will forever be. And the beauty of intelligence is that one can make a bigger boat. What, however, explanation is there for all the favors and selflessness offered me by others over the years? That's a big spot on a boat.
