Inside Higher Ed. My response: community college profs, and profs at for-profit institutions, are not paid to research; they're paid to teach. The author did his publishing and conferences "off the clock," unless he has a generous community college that subsidizes his travel expenses to go to conferences. And his research surely was not limited to the limited sabbaticals offered by his community college employer. The appeal of research university jobs stands.
