Politics is a zero-sum game -- a nonviolent forum where violent disagreements come to contingent compromises. "Who will get the money?" is the question.
Our country is large in population, size, and wealth. Consent has been manufactured by the elite class for decades and decades now, ever since socialist policies lost their luster well before the popular movements of the 1960s. The US proletarian class does indeed live well, but not so good in relation to the "haves" of our society.
I don't see a crisis in US politics; I see the need for a popular movement from the left that would secure a life of dignity for the educated voters who nonetheless are treated like dirt -- people like adjuncts, store clerks, and many Obama voters.
