It's been so long since I've drank a bunch. And that is good. I wrote the below on the topic, remembering how for the typical American young man, binge drinking is a right of passage.
Well, I think I meant something different with the term "social drinker." That means I don't drink at home alone (also a decent John Hughes flick). A social drinker will drink 2-4 drinks in a night out and still be able to drive home (i.e. be below 0.08% BAC).
As for those nights chugging eight, ten, a dozen bad light beers out of cans...that's a bad habit to be grown out of, whether one is with others (social) or not.
People drink that much because intoxication seeks them out as much as they seek it, I think. It's a sign of laziness in search of a good time, a lack of refinement, an unease with the self, and finally, habit.
And also, of course, a disease that is difficult to explain and is genetic in nature.
