More thoughts on Kagan nomination
Let's just find some solace that Kagan is an undersized New York Jew lesbian. Her values can't be that far off from my own pseudo-urban effete liberal views, perhaps personified by Al Franken. Let's hope she'll take action when she sees injustice. But how disappointing is it that a Democrat is appointing someone who we can easily imagine favoring corporations, Wall St., and the Ivy League oldboys? When Cargill or Monsanto sues small farmers, who will protect the little guy?
A strong Hillary Clinton administration would vanquish the old reactionary forces like a left-of-center Thatcherite. Overall I don't see Obama transforming the political terrain as much as we'd like -- what exactly does he have to apologize to the Right for? Where has that old Kennedy spine gone? It's time to gain some ground; merely protecting the gains of the liberal golden age is the surefire way to get kicked out of power. Chuck Schumer, Kagan, Biden, Harry Reid, Byron Dorgan -- are these the people to lead a revolution? At least Bush 43 had some cojones.
My two cents.
