Letter to editor 2-13-09: Taxes
To the editors:
With the Minnesota state budget shortfall obviously not going to be solved by budget cuts or accounting gimmicks, the Legislature will have to raise taxes. It's inevitable.
Let's tax the credit card companies who have been exploiting Minnesotans by spiking introductory rates after cardholders make small mistakes like paying a monthly bill one day late or a few dollars short. If a credit card company spikes up an APR, tax part of the profits they're making though their unfair, misleading business practices. This would also keep hard-earned money in our state.
The banking companies have already gotten their bailout; let's protect Minnesota citizens and tax their ill-gotten profits.
