I've been hired to a full-time English teaching gig to Brown College.
My wife Jess works across the street, literally, at the American Cancer Society. We're both excited about our burgeoning careers and excited to pay the creditors. (Usury used to be illegal, you know.)
I'll be teaching fundamentals, basic comp, and advanced comp/research this semester, and semesters in the future I'll teach their literature course and their literature and film course. I'm very excited.
We'll go on the quarter program, and no classes on Fridays (or on Mondays for me this quarter ). But the school year goes year-round, no summers off. I met my coworkers on Friday and heard a "strategic vision" presentation by the new college president.
So, my post-graduate school life has essentially begun. And I'm back on a grad student schedule. And like in graduate school, I'll be working a part-time job -- Best Buy.
The joy of teaching! Some people need a teacher! What a deal! Maybe that MA in English literature wasn't a waste of time .
