I attended it, as one reader may already know. It's where the first-year graduate students in literature meet with the literature department director and talk about professionalization and the like. We talked about teaching portfolios and the job application process today, with me talking about the three areas of academic life, service, teaching, research, and offering up some ideas. There's really no difference between those in colloquium and those not in it (like me) other than I'm just not required to be there. But I think things went okay. I don't think I became fodder for being made fun of, which, after my first year, I realize can be a very real possibility. I'm off to work at GNC now. Must plan rest of semester for the class I'm teaching tonight.
