We got through class today. My observer Kathryn noticed that I had a student walk out of class early, but I did not notice. Teaching the English 102 curriculum is just killer, and I don't mean "really good." Just the opposite. Do I blame a student for walking out, for not being interested in the course material? How could I be? If a student doesn't find a topic for the research paper that they're interested in, what am I to do? I'm not interested in the material myself. I just want to read my Stendhal biography, and write and live my life like him -- be a part of literature. Teaching 101 is not heaven, but it's feeling 10 times better right now.
The students are less than willing to research the hard stuff, I've found.
I've got to go.
