Today I prepped myself (eating food, drinking liquids, putting on sunblock) to go on a longish bike ride. That I did; I had planned on riding up "A" mountain, just outside of downtown Tucson, but could not find the road to get to the road that twists around the peak. So I went around the mountain, then headed to Speedway Blvd. going west.
I stopped for awhile when my bro Paul called, took a rest. Then I climbed and climbed, and climbed some more, all the way up to Gates Pass, where there's a lot of elevation and one can see Mexican mountains from there. I hopped up the rocky path with my 20 lb. road bike and took some pictures.
Then I started going down the hill, back home to Stone Ave., the beautiful Sahara Apartments. Got home, drank a wicked brew of green drink (vitamins, live cultures, antioxidants), whey protein (quick digesting), Muscle Milk brand protein (slow digesting), creatine/dextrose, and fish oil and BCAA (branch chain amino acids) capsules. Downed that with about 30 oz. of water en toto, then proceeded to boil whole grain pasta toward a sautee of onions, green peppers, albacore tuna, meunster cheese, with olive oil and spaghetti sauce. All relatively wicked eats: protein, complex carbs, good fats.
By the next bike trip I'm going to get decent water bottles; missing a cap on the one I've got; need to drink a mix of carbs and protein while on the road.
This all before 1:30 p.m. You know, one can't tell that it's 100 degrees while moving on a bike, although I could totally feel the heat on my face as I dropped elevation quickly.
Tucson is a cool place. I'm enjoying my sobriety, returning to normalcy re: my mental health. Come ride with me.
