Inside Higher Ed comment
The article is about professors getting fired and then rehired for the same job with significantly less pay, benefits, and job security. I went through the exact same experience, and I'm still working at the place. I was sore about it for a long time, but I got over it. My teaching quality and enthusiasm have suffered, tuition does not cost less (it's gone up, of course), and overall I skate along instead of doing a good job. I inflate the grades so students don't complain to administration; I dumb the content down. I make ends meet working a low-status retail job.
For all the posters crowing about this local skirmish in the War of Tenure, shame on you. In the richest country in the history of the world, every honest worker who adds value to society deserves a full-time job with health insurance, and to not have to worry about getting fired because a student complained about a "C" grade (which happened to me).
As for the poster who said that Marxism has nothing to do with the real world, s/he is mistaken, as a cursory reading of this comment page shows.
